We have a really exciting opportunity on at the moment. One of the companies that provide Medical Staff into the Police constabularies in the North of England, is looking to expand their team. There is an opportunity to attend a training course in the next few months and then go into a full time and permanent post as an FME - Forensic Medical Examiner with the Local Police.
Most of the work will take place within the three custody suites but some cases will be managed at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre or at addresses specified by the police in a particular case. The Contract is an average of 48hours per week usually divided into 4x 12hr shifts covering 24 hours a day weekend and Public Holidays.
The successful applicant will be expected to manage cases within the whole range of Clinical Forensic Medicine. Medical background in general practice or accident and emergency medicine is particularly useful. Previous experience in Custody Forensic Medicine would be a bonus but not essential. Specific training is mandatory and will be provided by the company.
The successful applicant will be the team leader when working his/her shifts. Each working shift consists of one forensic physician and two forensic nurses. There will be opportunities to develop expertise in sexual offences as there is a requirement to contribute to the sexual offences rota.
Salary £60,000 per annum.

The Role
Successful applicants will be expected to work as part of a team, participating in a 24 hours on-call rota, to principally provide forensic medical examinations of the detainees and victims of crime, including sexual offences. Attendance at scenes of sudden and suspicious deaths will also be required, in addition to preparing statements for lega proceedings.

The Candidate

You will be a Doctor with broad experience (e.g. A&E or General Practice), post-registration training and an interest in forensic work. Experience in forensic medicine is not essential as you will be provided with specialist training (as required).  You must be fully qualified and registered with the GMC, a full driving licence is also essential.
