Skilled in ECGs, urinary catheterisation and pharmacy procedures. You will be expected to head the resuscitation team in the event of a cardiac arrest and to be able to display leadership skills.

The main duties will include basic cardiovascular examination, consultation, reading basic blood results, cardiovascular risk scoring (using a risk calculator) and a supervisory role for ECG stress testing (conducted by a cardiac technician). Stress ECGs will be reported remotely by a consultant cardiologist, but the RMO must be competent in reading resting ECGs.

The post is based at Queen Mary's Hospital site. This is a District General Hospital officially opened in 1975 and has 430 beds. It is situated 15 miles from Central London on the A20 (Maidstone Road) and serves a population of approximately 218,000.
 
In addition to the general clinical departments, there are also paediatric, surgical, geriatric and ophthalmic departments.   Supporting services include well equipped diagnostic Radiology, Pathology and Pharmacy departments.
 
The Post Itself
 
This is a Junior Clinical Fellow post that participates in the SHO, resident on-call rota with the other F2 and Junior Clinical Fellows. The post is on the SHO grade , which is currently £- £per annum. The post also attracts a Band 1B supplement of 40% of basic salary for out-of-hours commitment, and a London Allowance of £ per annum.  
 
The post is not recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons for training purposes and is therefore only open to those with Full Registration. Possession of MRCS or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
Duties of the Post
 
The Junior Clinical Fellow is required to assist the Consultant in the management of all patients, preparing trauma lists and supervising / teaching the F1 doctors. Duties will include the receiving and managing trauma and elective Orthopaedic admitted patient, doing daily ward round, maintaining detailed medical records, teaching / training of the F1 doctors, assisting in the operating theatre, working under the supervision of the Registrar/Clinical Fellows and Consultant.   The postholder is also required to attend to all correspondence pertaining to the Orthopaedic Department and to ensure that all summaries are despatched as quickly as possible.
Attending the operating theatre is encouraged but the ward work is to be sorted as first priority. Audit and Clinical research will be encouraged.

Our client is seeking a number of enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative individuals to join their current Emergency Medicine Team to help the continuing development of the service and to contribute to all aspects of the running of the Emergency Department. They are planning for the future, and the provision of high quality Emergency Care is key to their strategic vision.

The Trust currently delivers Emergency Care out of our two main sites, which together, serve a diverse local population of over 500,000.

Both departments provide 24 hour emergency care services, currently seeing approximately 210,000 patients per year between the 2 sites.

There are currently 6 consultant posts across the 2 sites (currently 2 posts vacant) and with their commitment to the future development of Emergency Medicine, they are significantly expanding the consultant workforce ultimately to 9.

The post will attract 10 Programmed Activities and incumbents will be expected to work on both sites as needed. The new consultant team will be supported by an Associate Specialist and a tier of 20 middle grade doctors (currently 16) who provide 24 hour cover to both departments. There are SpRs, F2s, GPVTS trainees and dedicated Emergency Nurse Practitioners at both sites.

In order to broaden the skill sand experience within the team, there is an opportunity to develop an area of special interest in line with the strategic plan for the department and the Trust. In particular, a sub-specialty interest in paediatric emergency medicine, management of training programmes or strategic planning would be highly advantageous. Gastroenterology practice in the Island is of necessity more broadly-based than that found in the UK mainland hospitals. Working closely with the Consultant, House Officer and the multidisciplinary teams both on the endoscopy unit and on the general medical wards, the post provides an unparalleled opportunity to practice all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and to manage patients admitted from unselected acute medical admissions including coronary care and intensive care.
 
The nature of the post demands that the successful candidate has extensive experience in all aspects of gastroenterology and endoscopy and has acquired a broad base of clinical experience in general medical specialities. In terms of practical experience, the appointee should be proficient in all aspects of diagnostic endoscopy and general gastroenterology and general medicine. Experience in the acute management and endoscopy of upper GI bleeds is advantageous but not essential.
 
It is expected that the appointee will have a minimum of 10 years post-qualification clinical experience, with a minimum of 4 years spent as a Registrar, Specialist Registrar or Staff Grade; At least 2 of these 4 years to have been whole time (or whole time equivalent) within the specialty of Gastroenterology and endoscopy. They must have audit data to show their competence in gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
 
The post holder will require FULL registration with the UK General Medical Council.
