In terms of practical experience, the appointee should be proficient in all aspects of diagnostic endoscopy and general gastroenterology and general medicine. Experience in the acute management and endoscopy of upper GI bleeds is advantageous but not essential.

It is expected that the appointee will have a minimum of 10 years post-qualification clinical experience, with a minimum of 4 years spent as a Registrar, Specialist Registrar or Staff Grade; At least 2 of these 4 years to have been whole time (or whole time equivalent) within the specialty of Gastroenterology and endoscopy. They must have audit data to show their competence in gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

The post holder will require FULL registration with the UK General Medical Council.

The post holder must have sufficient fluency in English to carryout his/her duties safely and effectively and with a degree of independence.

Associate Specialist – Diabetes and Endo
Jersey
Full time
Permanent

Hays Healthcare is currently recruiting for an Associate Specialist for a full time, permanent job in Diabetes and Endocrinology in Jersey.
The Jersey Diabetes service is a fully developed multidisciplinary team operating out of a dedicated Diabetes Centre, soon to move to newly refurbished premises separate from but adjacent to the main hospital site.
The diabetes centre also works closely with members of the extended diabetes team within the General Hospital, including Clinical Psychology, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Vascular Surgery and Renal Services.  Joint clinics are held with Paediatric services for adolescent patients
Arrangements to share care of diabetic patients with General Practice are in place and supported by a sophisticated modern District Diabetes Register and clinical information system incorporating excellent audit facilities.
There is an active and highly successful patient-support group on Jersey (Diabetes Jersey, loosely affiliated to Diabetes UK).  The Diabetes Jersey and Diabetes Centre staff work closely in supporting each other on projects both within the Diabetes Centre and in the community.

Due to the geographical separation from tertiary referral centres, a full range of endocrine and metabolic conditions is seen in the weekly endocrine clinic, including thyroid, adrenal, gonadal and pituitary disease, disorders of calcium metabolism and metabolic bone disease.  Access to MRI, CT and ultrasound investigations is enviable and isotopic investigations are available in Guernsey.  Radioiodine therapy is available in Southampton.

Benign and malignant thyroid tumours are managed jointly with local surgical services and fine-needle aspiration (and interpretation) is available locally, with radiological guidance if necessary.  Regular joint clinico-pathological conferences are held.
Subcutaneous hormone implants are performed in the Endocrine clinics.
For complex cases and specialised investigations, excellent shared care arrangements are in place with St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London.

Just off the north coast of France, Jersey is a thriving cosmopolitan offshore finance centre enjoying one of the highest standards of living in the world and benefits from a maximum income tax rate of 20%

The job is for July/August start and is permanent. Any doctors applying for this role must have full GMC registration, UK experience is an advantage though not a requirement
If you are looking for an excellent opportunity within a forward thinking environment, or would like more information on other Diabetes/endocrinology jobs, please send your CV to Victoria.dunlop@hays.com or call the office on 0113 2426500.
